  1. Lot of awesome stuff in this one. The best MC5 song from their best album! Excellent ENO choice too. Just an all around great listening collection!

    1. Good to see some love for this one. I'm kinda partial to Miss X, myself. All of their stuff is pretty great though.

  2. High Time is really the only MC5 album that has a single running theme. It's something everybody should listen to front to back several times.

The MC5 is one of those bands where something is always just a little bit off. But that's what makes them so great! Another band like this is Mission of Burma. There's always this bit of quirk in there that your brain never can really resolve. It makes them endlessly compelling, because it always plays like that puzzle you just can't quite solve. If I could bottle that concept..., but I can barely even comprehend it.

  3. This represents a big change of pace from the fast and loud/dissonant and dark style of the comps so far. Good call on the classic rocking numbers, especially the Bowie and Sensational Alex Harvey tunes!

And thanks to Bozobuttons for the comment about the MC5. He's right: Kick Out The Jams may rock with abandon, but it's too rambling for its own good; Back In The USA, while pared down and driving, doesn't have the focus of High Time. The band couldn't decide if it wanted to do old school rock like the Flamin' Groovies later do or stay politcal. Not only that, but High Time's packs a harder punch than either record because of its clearer production.
