Then There Was You (#019)

[ZS]

With ten of its fifteen tracks breaking the four minute mark, this week's compilation represents a marked pace shift from the last. If there's a lack of speed and aggression though, it's made up for with healthy doses of drama and darkness. And that's without getting all depressing on us either. I recommend low (or no) light. Headphones. Maybe, if it's your thing, a recreational drug. But hey, that's just a suggestion from someone who has a habit of over-analyzing these things, so take it for what it's worth. Listen how you like.

  1. Listened to this last night in the cafe while writing in the journal and got right into it. I didn't like a few songs toward the end as much, but the Mission of Burma track made for a good ending! I only knew of "Trem Two" and "We Who Wait," which is another standout from a band not many of my peers have talked about. The Adverts rank among the most intelligent and driving on the first wave UK punk bands, yet don't seem to get as much recognition.

Also, thanks for bringing out that Talking Heads song, for though I've played that record once or twice, the song had been forgotten until now. It's amazing how we can this drive to buy records and amass them on the shelves and still find gold in the ones we bought years ago. I see you've got a new one out, so I can't wait to hear it!

  2. I guess you have moved on. I've been calling back regularly over the last 2 yrs hoping for a re-up of this one.
