Black Randy & The Metrosquad - Pass the Dust, I Think I'm Bowie (1979)
Mark this down as one of many albums that I've had in my collection for years, but didn't really "get" until recently. "Say It Loud - I'm Black and I'm Proud" sung by a white guy didn't sit all that well with crowds at the time, and making the theme from "Shaft" part of the set didn't help either. The majority of the "offensive" stuff on here is pretty tame by today's standards though. I love the idea of Randy antagonizing audiences with his out of place soul-influenced shtick while rubbing elbows with the late seventies Los Angeles punk elite. Music's pretty solid too, making it essential listening rather than obscure novelty. This is the expanded Sympathy For The Record Industry edition.
