So I guess they call this goth rock. Whatever the label, I love it. In a lot of ways these singles mark the beginning of a movement that got really pretentious and overwrought very quickly; but Theatre of Hate did it best, and this collection attests to that. The real treats here, however, are the seven tracks that close out the disc by The Pack, vocalist and songwriter Kirk Brandon's precursor to Theatre of Hate. They were a more aggressive beast than the band that they evolved into, and were all the better for it.
