What can you really say about Hirax? I don't listen to a lot of metal anymore, especially the kind with vocalists that favor high-pitched squealing like we find Katon W. DePena doing here. But there's something that keeps me coming back to this album (actually a collection, gathering together the Raging Violence LP and the Hate, Fear And Power EP). It might be that although Hirax had one foot firmly planted in traditional metal cheese, the other was dabbling in crossover thrash (a genre that at the time was just starting to emerge) and, dare I say, an early incarnation of grind.
