It's been quite a while, but back in July of last year I posted the F.U.'s Do We Really Want To Hurt You? In the post, I mentioned that they later changed their name to Straw Dogs, changed up their style, and the results were mixed. I stand by that statement, but mixed results certainly doesn't mean all bad. In fact, the majority of this album (their last) kicks quite a bit of ass. The previous Straw Dogs LP, We Are Not Amused (also released, with several additional tracks, as Under The Hammer) never grabbed me the way Your Own Worst Nightmare does. Here they largely succeed in melding the things I loved about the F.U.'s with their new-found appreciation for metal. It's not perfect, and at the end of the day I will almost always return to the material they recorded under their previous moniker, but there's plenty to love here nonetheless. Definitely worth checking out.
