In 1979 Lester Bangs (notorious rock critic for Rolling Stone back when that wasn't something to be embarrassed of) and Mickey Leigh (Joey Ramone's brother, later of The Rattlers) formed Birdland and recorded these nine tracks. They went unreleased until 1986, four years after Bangs' death. Some of these songs turned up on Bangs' other musical venture, Jook Savages on the Brazos (with the Delinquents), although in altogether different forms. Good stuff, and totally under-appreciated.
