Naz Nomad & the Nightmares - Give Daddy The Knife Cindy (1984)
With guitarist Captain Sensible off pursuing a solo career shortly after the release of Strawberries, The Damned took some time in his absence to release this one-off collection of garage rock covers using the pseudonym Naz Nomad & the Nightmares. Most of the tracks are fairly straight forward re-recordings, but it's still a fun LP. More of The Damned is almost always a good thing, and this is certainly a must-hear for unfamiliar fans.
Yes not a bad Lp from the damned. But their best track in this vein was on Rubble 9...where I am sure it is the damned under an assumed name (they also recorded as the spooks) namely the Sleepeaters - The Last Mile. I suspect this gave them the taste to try a LP.
I had read that they'd done a couple other tracks under different names, but I haven't heard them. I'll have to check them out. Thanks for the comment!
unfortunately my mp3's are low quality, I am still searching for the LP and the CD, I am offering to share them but in this case you really note how bad 128 kps mp3s are.

ReplyDeleteAre you familiar with Dave Vanian And The Phantom Chords? If not, you should check them out. Great, reverb-loaden, haunting Rockabilly-ish stuff.
ReplyDeleteI'd heard OF this project, but no, I haven't actually had the chance to hear it. I'll have to track it down. Thanks for the recommendation!
