Back in 1987 the Pixies recorded their first demos over the course of three days. The session produced seventeen tracks that would come to be known as The Purple Tape. Eight of the songs were selected by 4AD Records to be released as the Pixies first official EP, Come On Pilgrim. The remaining nine were banished to bootleg status until 2002 when they would finally be made available to the general public, although the majority of the songs showed up on other releases in different recordings. These are the originals though. What's really amazing about these tracks is how fully-formed the Pixies were at such an early stage.
