The Pogues - Streams Of Whiskey: Live In Leysin, Switzerland 1991 (1991)

If you really wanted to know what all the fuss was about, you needed to hear The Pogues live. Studio recordings have always had a habit of taking the teeth out of their material. That's not so much a complaint, because I do happen to love their records. But if you've ever had the pleasure of hearing a bootlegged early-career performance, you might better understand the "punk" tag that their often given. In particular, Live At McGonagles captures an intensity rarely, if ever, matched in studio. Until someone gets around to officially releasing that one though, Streams Of Whiskey - although a later period recording and only a semi-legitimate release since the band outright discourages fans from purchasing it - will do just fine. (By the way, if anyone out there has a full, good quality rip of the McGonagles boot, please get in touch.)
