Hates - Contamination Disc (1979-1992)

Oh man, what a find. I just got my grubby paws on this one a couple of days ago, and I feel compelled to share. As I understand it, there were only a thousand of these pressed. Texas punk rock of the finest variety. This collection includes the majority of their earliest material, although the 1982 Panacea LP (really more like an EP in terms of length) is maddeningly missing a track. I'm partial to the band's work that dates to the seventies and eighties, which is not at all unlike their peers Really Red or the Dicks, but unique in its own right (a seemingly essential trait of Houston-area music from this era). The New World Oi LP (presented in its entirety), however, is almost equally as great. By then they'd morphed into a BGK-style hardcore act, and the shift in sound suits them unbelievably well. It's almost impossible to believe the liner notes' claim that it was released in 1992 (my ears scream "eighties!").
