You're unlikely to have heard or read anything about Come On. It seems they've been nearly entirely forgotten, but then I'm a sucker for anything post-punk or new wave from the late seventies; so of course I nabbed this compilation up when it crossed my path. It was a more than worthwhile purchase. What little information I've been able to gather (the liner notes, or lack thereof, were certainly no help) suggests that the similarities to Talking Heads are more than a passing coincidence. There's no question they were avid fans, and apparently some kind of mutual respect existed as David Byrne is said to have been a regular at Come On performances. That said, these recordings showcase a band less interested with any kind of pop sensibility than their aforementioned peers were, and it would be a mistake to dismiss them as clones or imitators. Come On's small body of work stands on its own, and is well worth exploring for the curious new/no wave enthusiast.

Great write up! Come On are one of my favorites of the 70s New Yorksters.
